Lake
Titicaca is among the most beautiful destinations in Peru as well
as an engaging experience in Andean culture.
Access to the
region is gained by a scenic 9 hour train ride across the Andean
altiplano from Cusco, as well as by plane. We can custom build a
tour of 3-12 days of Lake Titicaca in Peru and/or Bolivia from the
following excursions, offered on a daily basis.
Tours from
Puno, Peru:
1.
Puno City Tour (half day) Early colonial churches and architecture
characterize this colorful Andean city. You will be introduced to
the mix of modern and traditional culture in this vibrant region.
An impressive panaroma of the entire city and surrounding landscape
can be viewed from the heights of Manco Capac overlook.

2.
Sillustani and Lake Umayo (1 day) The Sillustani ruins are located
on a small hilltop overlooking Lake Umayo. Most impressive are the
funerary towers which date from the Inca occupation of the 15th
century and also burial towers of the Colla culture which feature
engineering even more complex than Inca. Lake Umayo features a wildlife
reserve, where you can see wild Vicuna, Alpaca, Giant Andean Coot,
Puna Teal, Silvery Grebe, and much more.
3.
Uros Floating Islands, Lake Titicaca (1 day) These man-made islands
are constructed from Titicaca's totora reeds. The reeds are a source
for much of the island people as they also construct their homes,
make their boats and eat them as well. The communities exist little
changed from the time of the Inca. The people live simply, worship
the god of the water, and speak in the original Quechua language.

4.
Taquile and Amantani Islands, Lake Titicaca (2 days) The most beautiful
islands in Lake Titicaca, with terraced red earth set against a
backdrop of Titicaca's deep blue and snow capped peaks. The islands
feature colorful traditional communities and ruins. The inhabitants
maintain their colorful traditional dress, agricultural practices,
religion and language. Taquile is graced by seven splendid stone
arches, each carved with totems. The evening is spent with a family
in their residence on Amantani.
5.
Aymara Native Markets (1 day, only on Sundays) The native markets
at Acora and Ilave feature foods, artisanias and the colorful clothes
and textiles of the Aymara people. Hundreds of different potato
species and unusual fruits and vegetables can be found, as well
as medicinal plants. Market day is an important day, so the native
people are in their most colorful traditional dress. Folk music
and traditional dances are also featured. >From Puno, Peru to La
Paz, Bolivia requires a day of travel, 3 hours to Copacabana (gateway
to the Island of the Sun) and 4 more hours to La Paz.
